Stephanie Hyde, New York A reporter from the small, local Bessemer newspaper contacted me. We interviewed on the telephone and then she asked me to put in writing what we discussed. Here is the email I sent her (also she wanted a photograph of me which I attached). ————————————————————————————————————————- Dear Ms. Hartzog: When the CNY SPCA in Syracuse, NY became embroiled in a situation involving a dog that was found alone in an abandoned house with feces and urine so bad the floor was about to give way I asserted that the SPCA abuse investigator was himself abusive because his handling of the situation was not in line with what most people would find acceptable or even lawful. I got some nationwide attention for the dog via the internet. The first person I heard back from was a strong woman Delaney Bracken who lives in Alabama. From there, I have met alot of strong women from Alabama online and we shared and continue to share out thoughts about animal welfare. It was through these contacts that I came to learn of the Bessemer Animal Shelter situation. My opinion is I thought it was about time the Mayor of Bessemer gets a taste of how a New York woman is going to respond to being ignored. I have made numerous calls to his office to get his side of the story but he will not return my phone calls. As such I have been given the impression the Mayor is afraid of New Yorker’s and that the city of Bessemer is run by the southern old boy network which has been in place in Alabama since dinosaurs walked the planet. Hence it was necessary to take it to the next level as I won’t be ignored, and in so doing, the Mayor could get a taste of what New York women are like. That is why I managed to get the office of the Lieutenant Governor of the State of Alabama to contact the Mayor’s office about the situation with the animal shelter there. The email from the Lt. Governor’s office to me can be found on www.stephaniehydelovesbessemer.com
I would like to challenge the Mayor to a public debate in Bessemer about the standards that should be used in running a shelter according to the guidelines set out by the Humane Society of the United States and what conditions should be in place and what constitutes animal abuse and debate him on whether or not animals in a ”shelter” can or cannot be considered abuse victims. I would like to debate him on whether or not according to the animal welfare laws in place nationally and in the state of Alabama, whether or not there is any animal abuse going on at the shelter. I would like to invite the entire city of Bessemer to the debate and let them decide by a show of hands who wins. I would also like the invite the Mayor to walk through the animal shelter with me prior to the debate and I will point out all the things that are wrong with it, all of the things that are violations and let him get a look for himself prior to the debate as what was discovered during our walk through as those issues will be evidence for points raised in my position. I believe my involvement on behalf of the Bessemer Animal Shelter has earned me the keys to the city and that I should be made Honorary Mayor for the day. When I am made Honorary Mayor for the Day, I will fire myself which will mean Mayor Ed will in turn be fired since I will be representing him. I will also fire everyone on the police force, the town council, and at the animal shelter. I will have new staff in place within the 24 hours I am Honorary Mayor. And I will stay on board as City Executive making frequent visits from New York while running the city from my office in New York. In fact, I consider the situation so egregious right now in Bessemer with regards to the animal shelter that I am urging the people of the city to oust the Mayor and I will without hesitation becomes Mayor of Bessemer right now until the current Mayor’s term runs out. When I receive in writing from the Mayor of Bessemer an acceptance of my challenge to a debate, I will be making my arrangements to fly to Alabama. I will expect my traveling and lodging expenses to be paid by the city and I will charge a speaking fee which I will donate to the Bessemer Animal Shelter.
